HISTORY, SOURCES, TEACHINGS OF ISLAMIC TRADITION with Dr. Ahmed Khater
*attendance available in-person or virtually*
This course aims to ground students in the Islamic tradition, namely in its theological, legal, historical, and contemporary contexts, with a focus on faith and practice. Beginning with the core tenets of Islam, analyzing the five pillars of Islam and the pillars of faith, students will then learn about the life of the Prophet Muhammad and the history of Islam. Following this, students will study the foundational sources of the tradition, as well as Islamic theology, Islamic law, and Islamic spirituality. Students will also look at the various sciences dedicated to the study of the foundational sources. The course will end with a look at modern movements, political groups and contemporary issues.
