After Orthodoxy: A Bold New GTUx Original
Description
The Center for Jewish Studies is hosting a special screening of the new GTUx Original Series, After Orthodoxy. The brainchild of noted scholar Naomi Seidman, this video series explores scholarship, religion, activism, and art as experienced by those who have left Orthodox communities and since reengaged with them in unique ways. From academics who challenge traditional narratives to spiritual seekers who reshape belief on their own terms; activists who push for change and artists who mine their past to redefine representation in film, music, and performance, these narratives illuminate the deep entanglements between identity, heritage, and personal reinvention. Each module offers an intimate look at how individuals bridge worlds—embracing elements of their past while forging new, meaningful paths forward.
Stick around after the screening for an intimate conversation between Deena Aranoff, Faculty Director of the Richard S. Dinner Center for Jewish Studies and the creative mind behind After Orthodoxy, Dr. Naomi Seidman, Chancellor Jackman Professor of the Arts at the University of Toronto in the Department for the Study of Religion and the Centre for Diaspora and Transnational Studies.
